King’s Dominion is located in Doswell, Virginia, just 20 miles North of Richmond and 75 miles South of Washington D.C. It has recently been voted “Virginia’s Most Exciting Theme Park” – with over 400 acres of fun and thrills around every corner. Enjoy some of the most spine-tingling roller coaster’s, one of the world’s largest drop towers with a 272 foot drop at a chilling 75 miles-per-hour, WaterWorks – 20 acres of water-filled fun for those hotter days, live shows for the whole family, and even a cute Nickelodeon area for the young ones.
The thrill rides at King’s Dominion bring you to amazing speeds and heights that will keep you screaming and sometimes even take your breath away completely. One of the most exciting rides is the impressive HyperSonic XLC an impressive roller coaster launch ride, taking you from 0-80 mph in less than 2 seconds! This incredibly fast launch catapults it’s passengers 165 feet straight up and then straight back down by using compressed air.
Another great roller coaster is the Flight of Fright which is propelled using linear induction magnets. This coaster has been placed indoors, taking riders through a cobra roll, a sidewinder, a corkscrew, and many other twists and turns. The coolest factor; the ride is based in almost complete darkness, leaving passengers unaware of what they are about to endure.
One of the theme park’s newest additions is The Dominator which openeds on May 24, 2008. This roller coaster broke 2 records. Passengers not only ride the largest, floor-less steel roller coaster at 4,210 feet, they will also go through the world’s largest vertical loop all while traveling with speeds up to 65 mph.
Working up a sweat after all the thrill rides? Visit WaterWorks, the water park located on the premises which is free to all who paid for admission into King’s Dominion. WaterWorks is located on 20 acres within the park and includes: Big Wave Bay – a pool giving it’s swimmers waves up to 4 ft. high, Zoom Flume – a log flume to entertain folks of all ages, The Lazy River – for all the folks who just want to drift about while taking a rest in the sun, Tidal Wave Bay – a gigantic swimming pool for the whole family, and several different water slides including another one of the theme park’s record breakers – The Night Rider the world’s largest enclosed dark tube slide.
Other things to see and visit at King’s Manor would be Nickelodeon Central, where kids can receive a hug from some of their favorite characters and ride the kid-coasters. The live shows are quite a site and entertains parents as well as kids. Last but not least, make sure to try out one of the 30 restaurants and snack bars which provides many choices for even the pickiest eater to enjoy a fine dining experience.
