An art museum located in Midtown Manhattan, Museum of Modern Art, also known as the MoMA has been the pride of New York City for years. It gives you access to an amazing collection of architecture and design, painting, sculpture, drawings, photography, prints, artist’s books, film, electronic media, and especially modern & contemporary art.

The place is famous for an incredible library that holds a rare collection of more than 300,000 books with reference to nearly 70,000 artists. Started late back in 1928, the Museum of Modern Art was developed by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, Lillie P. Bliss, and Mrs. Cornelius J. Sullivan. The place is associated with exhibitions by various famous artists like Vincent van Gogh back in 1935 and then their hugely successful Picasso retrospective. Though not many envisioned a bright future for this museum started by the daring ladies, today it has the best collection of Modern Masterpieces in the world.

The museum holds art work by some very eminent artists like Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Andy Warhol, Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, Paul Cezane, Jackson Pollock, Andrew Wyeth, and Frida Kahlo. The place also has some great pieces of art work from leading American artists like Cindy Sherman, Jasper Johns, Edward Hopper, Ralph Bakshi, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Georgia O’Keeffe. The museum also has a great shopping outlet.

The museum remains closed on Tuesdays. The working hours of the museum are 10.30am-5.30pm from Sunday to Thursday and 10.30am-8pm on Friday and Saturday. The museum is open throughout the year except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The museum is enabled with latest facilities and services like free audio programs, interactive video stations, calendars marking events at the museum, wireless access, gallery talks, and also family activity guides.

The museum has a special way planned out for those visiting the museum with kids. It would be better to bring in your kids on weekdays since there is less rush on such days and they get more time to explore with plenty of time. Also you can take advantage of the free family programs by pre-planning the visit. The museum has complete wheelchair access. The cost for visiting the museum is $16 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $10 for college students and $7 for other students(prices may change). Group discounts are also available.

Outside food is not allowed within the museum. For dining, you should choose the award-winning restaurant The Modern which is run by the famous chef Gabriel Kreuther. They have a Dining Room overlooking the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, The Bar Room and a more casual dining area as well as bar area. The other options for you are the Cafe 2 and Terrace 5. While Cafe 2 brings to you an array of handmade pastas, salumi, salads, soups, Panini and the like, at Terrace 5 you can choose from a seasonal menu and mouth-watering deserts. These dining options are available only to visitors of the museum.
