Located in the St. James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland, the Guinness Storehouse has welcomed millions of visitors since opening in 2000. It is situated within a building that was constructed in 1904. The Storehouse pays homage to the history of Guinness, the country’s most famous beer.

Arthur Guinness began brewing ale at the St. James’s Gate Brewery in 1759. Guinness stout is composed of water, barley, hops, and brewer’s yeast. It is a dark beer that is a staple beer in Ireland as well as the United Kingdom, but it is also popular in America. Arthur Guinness first began to sell his dark beer porter in 1778. Today, Guinness is Ireland’s best-selling drink.

The Guinness Storehouse was founded to tell the story of Arthur Guinness, the founding of his company, and his legendary beer. The Storehouse building was historically the brewery’s fermentation plant. It was redesigned to function as the visitor center of the St. James’s Brewery. Situated on seven floors that overlook an atrium in the shape of a Guinness pint, the Storehouse also added a new wing in 2006 to showcase its current brewing processes.

Each floor is designed to tell part of the Guinness story. The ground floor contains exhibits about the life of Arthur Guinness as well as his beer’s essential ingredients. Other floors feature exhibits about the company such as its advertising. The fifth floor contains a brewery bar that showcases Irish cuisine made with Guinness stout. In the Storehouse’s Perfect Pint Bar, visitors actually have the opportunity to craft their own pint of Guinness under the tutelage of a company staff member.

Of course, everyone’s favorite floor of the Storehouse is the seventh floor where the Gravity Bar is located. This venue awards visitors a complimentary pint of Guinness and allows them to enjoy its famous views of the city. The friendly gathering place is the ideal place to enjoy a Guinness among friends.

Located across from the atrium, the company’s store is also popular among visitors. This venue sells a plethora of treats as well as memorabilia and clothing that is unique to the store. The shop sells the largest array of Guinness merchandise in the world. The store also provides information about tracing the family history of past company employees which has become a popular service at the Storehouse. The Guinness Storehouse also hosts special events and often features live music.
