Hotel Provincial :: New Orleans, Louisiana

The Hotel Provincial’s on-site restaurant Stella has a cozy, brick-walled interior with beamed ceiling and stone fireplace. Stella’s chef, one of the best in the United States, is known for hybrid Louisiana-Asian cuisine with unique ingredients including rare Japanese tuna. This hotel was once used as a Confederate hospital. Confederate soldiers and doctors alike have reportedly been seen wandering the halls, or reaching out to guests for help. There are even reports of the moans of ghostly figures being heard through out the complex of buildings making this a must see destination for anyone who loves a good scare. One of the buildings was used from the founding of the city and throughout the 18th century as a medicinal herb garden for the Military Hospital just down the street. Another one of the buildings was built in the 1830′s and was utilized in the Creole fashion of retail store downstairs, and living quarters upstairs. For many years a hardware store occupied the site, until it was purchased and restored in 1964 by the Dupepe Family who has owned and operate The Hotel Provincial since 1961.

Locals, guests and hotel staff have repeatedly identified Building # 5 as the most haunted, so be sure to request a room in this building! Many guests report walking into their room to discover bloody soldiers lying in pain and moaning in their rooms, only to disappear once the lights are turned on.
