You may find that there are quite a few sites to see and things to do while traveling in New York City. Going to historic landmarks is one of the most popular to-do items on peoples lists. What may be one of the most prominent and symbolic attractions within the entire United States, is the Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty is without a doubt one of the most visited and adored landmarks within the country. Millions of travelers each year make it a point to visit the statue in an attempt to take in all of it’s stunning beauty.

We know how important that the Statue of Liberty is to many people, but where was it made and how did it come to be? The history of the Statue of Liberty goes back to when the French presented it as a gift to America. It is 151 feet high (not including the foundation and pedestal).

What many people may not be aware of, is while you can look at the Statue of Liberty, take photos, and behold all of it’s beauty – there are also many other things that a person can do once they are actually there, up close and personal. For instance, you can go inside of the statue and climb your way to the crown. Once you are in, you will be certain to see some cool and interesting things and pieces of history that can help you understand the significance that this landmark has provided through the years.

There is so much that one can gain from a visit to the Statue of Liberty. A visit to the Statue of Liberty exhibit will take you through the history and symbolism of the statue. The Torch exhibit gives you a glimpse of the original 1886 torch and flame, while explaining the various alterations made to the flame throughout the years. Visiting the Statue of Liberty is certainly an educational trip that is definitely worth taking.

The Statue of Liberty is currently open for visitors daily from 8:30am – 6:15pm. Hours of operation are adjusted during seasonal and holiday periods. June through September tend to be the highest visited timeframe, holidays and weekends throughout the year also attract a large amount of visitors. These are things to keep in mind when planning your visit so you can avoid the crowds.
