Thrill seekers hold on to your hats. Well, you better hold on to your sunglasses, bags, and any other loose items too because this is Cedar Point; home to more roller coasters than any other place on Earth! Located in Sandusky, Ohio, this mammoth playground is also home to more rides (75) than any other amusement park in history. The wimpier among you need not worry however; this park holds plenty of mellow entertainment to keep you smiling as well. There is so much to do and so much to see, Cedar Point will leave you breathless the minute you walk through the gate.
[php snippet=1]Cedar Point is like several theme parks all rolled into one. They have a museum, an ice skating rink, an outdoor water park (Soak City), an indoor water park & hotel (Castaway Bay), and even a secondary amusement area (Challenge Park) that’s filled with go-karts, two 18 hole miniature gold courses, and a bungee jump like ride called the RipCord Skycoaster. You get all of this with gorgeous views of Lake Erie and beautiful gardens marking your way. For the kids, there are four different spots to keep them busy. Explore the two Peanuts themed areas Planet Snoopy and Camp Snoopy (think Charlie Brown and friends), along with the Gemini Midway and Kiddy Kingdom each is chock full of rides and diversions prefect for children. Adults will be glad to know that Cedar Point has won Best Amusement Park in the World twelve years in a row. A big part of that may be due to also having won in the Friendliest Staff category, but as we all know the crowds are here for the rides.
The newest roller coaster to grace the grounds is the Maverick. Maverick is a full two and a half minutes of spine tingling twists, turns, and drops. With a 100 foot drop that takes you to speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, this ride is not for the weak of heart. Blowing that record out of the water is the Top Thrill Dragster. Introduced in 2003 and carrying over a million riders a year, this is the place for the adrenaline junky. Although only 17 seconds long, it is a heart stopping 17 seconds that takes you climbing 420 feet (that’s taller than a 38 story building) and whooshes you down at an astounding 120 miles per hour twisting you a full 270 degrees on the way. Other fun “must try” coasters are the Blue Streak (an “old timey” wooden roller coaster), Mantis (imagine standing moving at 60 miles per hour), and Gemini (a dual car “racing” coater).
After you are done with the park’s 17 roller coasters, don’t forget the other great attractions they have in store. Check out the Power Tower, Snake River Falls, and the Giant Ferris Wheel. There are lots of places to eat, shop, and relax so pack you family and your sense of adventure and head out to Cedar Point Amusement Park!
